Demand for allocating 1 percent budget to sports sector

Kathmandu. The government is preparing to bring the budget for the fiscal year 2078/07. Stakeholders have demanded to allocate at least 1 percent of the total budget in the sports sector in the budget.

Nepal Sports Federation has submitted a 21-point demand letter to Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel requesting to allocate one percent of the budget. Secretary General of the Sports Federation Meghraj Poudel told Ratopati that the demand letter was handed over to Minister Poudel on Wednesday.

The federation has demanded permanent employment in government bodies for athletes who have won medals in the Asian and Olympic Games. The federation has also requested the finance minister to increase the incentive allowance being given to the medal winners of fair sports and arrange employment.

“We have demanded a separate quota for the sports sector while filling the posts of civil servants, police, army and corporation,” said Meghraj Poudel, general secretary of the sports federation. It has requested to allocate necessary budget.
